In the last 3 decades some of the world’s most valuable companies have been started by young graduates. Some notable examples include Microsoft, Apple, Google and Facebook. The Alacrity model developed by Professor Simon Gibson CBE & Owen Matthews, with the support of Sir Terry Matthews taps into the wealth of UK graduate talent and is focussed on using graduates primarily for the following reasons:
- Eagerness and willingness to learn, adapt and apply themselves to new ways of thinking and doing
- Less likely to have external commitments and hence can focus on an intensive pressured environment to get the job done
- Lower costs of employment and start-up costs
- Are not conditioned by legacy rulebooks and procedures
- View problems with a blank canvas
- Better conditioned and aligned for digital acquisition strategies
The Alacrity model brings to life the Innovation Driven Ecosystem with engagement from all 5 stakeholder groups. On 9th August 2011 a collaboration between Welsh Government, Wesley Clover, Andrew Probert and the Waterloo Foundation was agreed and the Alacrity Foundation UK was created and the 2012/13 cohort were the first to join us.
